The Founder of Islam

Muhammad ﷺ was born in Mecca, in the Arabian Peninsula, around 570 CE. He came from a prominent family, but lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his uncle. As a young man, Muhammad ﷺ worked as a merchant, but he was also known for his contemplative nature and his concern for the well-being of his fellow citizens.

According to Islamic tradition, when Muhammad ﷺ was 40 years old, he received his first revelation from God through the angel Jibraeel. These revelations lasted continued for the next 23 years and were later recorded in the holy book of Islam, the Quran.

Muhammad ﷺ began preaching the message of Islam to the people of Mecca, but he faced opposition and persecution from the powerful leaders of the city. In 622 CE, he and his followers migrated to Medina, a city located about 260 kilometers to the north, this event is known as the Hijra, and marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.

Madinah’s Life

In Medina, Muhammad ﷺ established a community of believers and established a political and social system based on the principles of Islam. He also continued to receive revelations from God and these are recorded in the Quran.

During his lifetime, Muhammad ﷺ was not only a religious leader but also a political leader, a military leader, and a social reformer. He unified the tribes of Arabia and established an empire that spread quickly across the Middle East and North Africa. He also introduced many social and legal reforms that improved the lives of his followers, such as the rights of women, slaves, and minorities.

Muhammad ﷺ died in 632 CE, and his death sparked a crisis of leadership within the Muslim community. However, his companions, known as the Sahaba, were able to resolve the crisis by selecting one of his closest companions, Abu Bakr, as the first caliph (Khalifah) and leader of the Muslim community.

After the death of Muhammad ﷺ , the Muslim community continued to expand Islam under the leadership of the caliphs.
